Who am I and what am I doing here?

Welcome welcome to my blog!

I'm in my final year at UCL, studying Earth Science. For the past two years I've been solely focused on geology and how things happened- how past environments have altered the earth and made it what it is today. For my final year, I've decided to focus more on what WILL happen, rather than what has happened, and what we're doing today that drives these changes.

As the title of this blog suggest, I'm going to be focusing on how things we use and take for granted in our daily lives affect the environment. Did you know that microbeads found in beauty products such as scrubs, are not so innocent- they are being swallowed up by marine life... and oestrogen (which comes from the contraceptive pill) is being found in our sea creatures too!?- This is something that I didn't even consider, until I was sat in my first lecture of 'Global Environmental Change'. I couldn't believe it when I heard it, but then thinking about it, it makes sense; it all passes through into the sewage system, eventually reaching water systems that contain life.

But these two things are just the beginning! What else do we use on a daily basis that impacts the environment? Is there anything we can even do about it?

With this blog, I hope to find the answers!
